Private Beta Enters Phase 2
In the seven days since we launched the private beta, we've found and fixed dozens of bugs with the help of our early beta testers. And despite some ongoing reliability issues with Google Calendar itself, we feel comfortable enough with the stability of the service to add the next batch of beta testers.
If you registered for the beta before 4:17pm EDT on October 16, your beta account has been enabled and a welcome email has been sent to you with download instructions and more information.
We'll continue to add groups of users to the private beta gradually to make sure we have a handle on performance and quality issues. And remember, if you didn't register for the private beta you'll still be able to participate in the public beta, which will immediately follow.
Existing beta users should download and install the latest version: Spanning Sync v1.0b2 (106). (If your account hasn't been enabled, you can download the software but it won't actually do anything.)
Update: Increasing the number of beta testers has had the desired effect of enlarging our test coverage area and uncovering more bugs. The bugs our (much larger) group of testers found today are almost all variations on the same couple of problems. We'll be working hard tomorrow and over the weekend to get those root problems fixed.
Thanks again to everyone already participating in the private beta. With your help, we're making Spanning Sync better every day.

Ok, here's one thing I need to know. I'm not signed in to the private beta testting, but I've installed the app, only because I'm curious. But I've seen one thing I don't like:
I use Google calendar, it's a great app, but I use it as a part of the Google apps for my domain, so I have a personal URL to sign in to Gmail and Gcal. Will Spanning Sync give support to users in this situation?

Sorry, it's in the FAQ...
Thank you anyway ;-)

You're right--the answer is in the FAQ--but for those of you who haven't read the FAQ, here's the answer:
Q: Will Spanning Sync work with Google Apps for Your Domain?
A: Yes! And we couldn't be more excited about it!
The rest of the FAQ can be found at:

Hi
Looking forward to the public Beta and future release. For years I've been a Yahoo user (purely for email) but more and more of the people that I know are going across to Google.
I've got a Google account, but have never really used it in anger ... then a few of us wanted to maintain a shared calendar and that's on Google.
Next step is to be able to share our own Calendars, but not publically - which is all that .MAC can do, or so it seems.
As I say ... looking forward to yor beta.

How can I signup for beta testing?
Posted by: Lasse | November 16, 2006 at 10:59 PM
I'd love to join the beta. Do you have room for one more?
Posted by: Martin Devon | November 17, 2006 at 12:28 PM
Yeah, I don't ever recall seeing a signup for the beta. I'm looking forward to getting in on this.

I've never seen this so called beta signup before :S are we supposed to signup in the comments?
Posted by: Pat | November 17, 2006 at 09:22 PM
There was a signup form for the private beta on the spanningsync.com site, but after 1,300 people signed up we closed registration and removed the form.
When the public beta starts (once the private beta is complete) we'll put up a new registration form and make an announcement on this blog.
Regards,
Charlie

I'm sure I signed up before it was closed.
I have not had any email from you and I can not log into the app!
Have not all testers been added?
Posted by: Tim Dunne | November 21, 2006 at 04:45 PM
Tim,
No, only a fraction of those who registered for the private beta have been added. We're working to fix the bugs that have been found before we add more testers. So don't worry--you're still on the list!

Charlie
