Spanning Sync v1.0 to Support Apple iPhone
Today Apple CEO Steve Jobs introduced iPhone, a combination widescreen iPod, mobile phone, and Internet communications device. Spanning Partners is proud to announce that Spanning Sync, the online service that provides two-way synchronization between Google Calendar and Apple iCal, will fully support the new iPhone.
Spanning Sync users will be able to create, change, and delete calendar events using iPhone, Google Calendar, and iCal, and have all three kept in perfect sync.
Spanning Sync is currently in private beta, and will be generally available later this month. For news and announcements, please visit the Spanning Sync Blog at blog.spanningsync.com.

Now THIS will be perfect. Cant wait!

Are you guys going to support contacts too? (Like, between Gmail's contacts and Address Book) Because that'd be freakin' SWEET.

How much longer are you guys going to tease us like this. I can't take anymore!

:-) We're not doing it to be cruel--we're just trying to get all the bugs fixed before we go any further. I promise!

As soon as Google provides an API for Gmail contacts, we'll sync them!

Charlie

Forget the bugs... I don't care about them! Just release the software as a public beta. I can handle the bugs, if I would even see them.
Meanwhile you guys can continue the development. Just make an option that will notify the users there is an update and everybody can update it.
Come on... LOL.

Sounds awesome but Phil Schiller said in an interview that no third party development or applications would can be be put on to the iPhone so I'm a bit confused as to how this is going to work.

Jon,
There's no magic going on here other than Apple's Sync Services. The iPhone will sync calendar information with your Mac using iTunes. Spanning Sync syncs your Mac with Google Calendar. Since they both use Sync Services, all three stay in sync.
It's just like the way Spanning Sync currently lets you sync your Google Calendars with your iPod, but with iPhone instead of only being able to read those events, you'll also be able to create, edit, and delete them.
Much credit is due to Apple and their design of Sync Services.
Regards,
Charlie

Wow. I really underestimated the power of sync services and it's framework. Agreed...awesome job Apple on Sync Services.

Gasp! Has it been over a week since we've heard any news about the public beta?!?!?
Can't wait, can't wait for it!!!

I'm mostly worried about the cost of this tool. I am assuming it will be a one-time fee and not a blood sucking subscription plan.
But I am very hopeful that as Mac developers you aren't out to screw your customers.

LOL. In my experience, companies out to screw their customers aren't companies very long.
Our basic business philosophy is simple: produce something valuable and sell it at a fair price. And it's the customers who decide both what's valuable and what's fair.

Charlie

When you said "As soon as Google provides an API for Gmail contacts" you meant this, right?
I googled for "google contacts api"

Satadru,
Yes, as soon as there's an API for Gmail contacts, we'll support syncing them with Apple Address Book. Unfortunately the page you linked to isn't a whole API, but it certainly looks like a start.
We're hopeful Google will choose to add a GData API to Gmail contacts soon.

Charlie

Nothing new for 19 days. Can we get some idea of what's going on, and when we can expect our calendars to have this manna from heaven?
