With the help of more than 10,000 beta testers, we continue to identify and fix bugs. Version 1.0b14 (135) is now available for download. This version fixes some serious bugs introduced in v1.0b13, so it's a mandatory upgrade.
What's New and Fixed in v1.0b14
- IMPORTANT: To take advantage of these fixes, once you've installed v1.0b14 you must click "Reset..." in the preference pane and then check "Reset info on this computer".
- Recurrences weren't syncing for events with exceptions
- Detached events could cause the sync to fail
- Google calendars no longer get erased when the paired iCal calendar is deleted
- Added protection against syncing a Google calendar whose ICAL feed is also subscribed in iCal
- "+" symbols in titles and descriptions weren't syncing
- Localization fixes
To upgrade, just quit and reopen Spanning Sync and follow the instructions. New users can download the installer directly. Please see the FAQ for answers to frequently-asked questions about Spanning Sync and the Beta FAQ for issues specifically related to the beta.

Since doing the update (following the instructions) I get a "Unknown Error. Try again later" every attempted update, ever since release (got the update almost immediately). This also means, no sync is working.

Well, due to the reset I have to resync 4 years of appointments and approx 800 emails have been send for past appointments to the attendees. You guess the reactions I do receive right now ...

Oliver,
We've had a small number of reports of this bug but have been unable to reproduce it. Obviously, it is very important to us to find and fix his bug.
Please create a report ("Reset...", "Create report") and email it to beta@spanningsync.com, along with a lis of the titles, dates, and times of the affected events and a copy of the email that was sent.
With your help we hope to get this bug fixed immediately.
Regards,
Charlie

Charlie -
A suggestion: Many of us, I suspect, are trying to sync multiple computers, multiple applications, handhelds, .mac, spanning sync, pocket mact, etc.
I'm finding myself getting multiple entries, corruption, etc. I think it's because stuff is getting into the pipeline of the mac sync services, and then is replicating itself across the platforms.
here's the suggestion: could you give a step-by-step guide for how to clean out the whole system and start from scratch. how, for example, is the best way to make sure that the mac's sync services dont have some prior version of the calendar? what about clearing out the spanning sync "cache"? which should we do first?
and then, once its all cleaned out, what's the best way to set everything up so it doesnt happen again?
here's my setup, if it helps give an example:
Home imac -- using iCal.
Macbook -- using iCal
work computer -- XP using google
blackberry -- syncing with pocketmac to home imac.

Mike,
From a Spanning Sync standpoint, the suggested method for "cleaning out the system" is to select "reset info on this computer" in the reset sheet. Uninstalling the software is obviously a more complete solution but probably overkill.
From an Apple Sync Services standpoint, and some of these issues are caused by Sync Services bugs, the best way to reset things is to open iSync, go to preferences, and reset the sync history. This leaves the application data itself (such as your iCal calendars) untouched but deletes the central sync database so that next time you sync, every app will be asked for its complete set of data meaning the sync will take much longer.
How do you keep it from happening again? You tell us about the bugs so that we can fix them :-) Seriously, the only thing you can really do is let us know what's going on so we can track it down and fix it. If you want to go above and beyond the call, try to minimize the problem by eliminating variables such as other devices and software and see if the problem is reproducible. If we can reproduce a problem we will fix it in a heartbeat.
Cheers
Larry

As of this version, Spanning Sync is working perfectly for me so far. Thanks for this terrific software!

Keith,
Thanks for the feedback--that's great to hear. As of b14 the vast majority of our users are syncing without any problems. We're still tracking down and killing bugs, but they're increasingly esoteric.
(Of course, no one thinks the bug affecting *them* is esoteric, but you should see some of the bizarre stuff that gets put in your calendar database by other applications!)

Charlie

Version 1.0b13 and 1.0b14 both do not work for me anymore when I try to overwrite all my entries in Google-Calendar from iCal. Google gives me an error refusing to overwrite.

Yes! Version 1.0b14 works great. Keep up the good work!

Zeno,
Can you give us a better idea of the error message you're seeing? Also, please create a report ("Reset...", "Create report") and email it along with a detailed description of the problem to beta@spanningsync.com.
Christian,
Great! Thanks.

Charlie

I'm in the same boat as a couple of the people who have previously commented.
whenever i put in my google information I receive a "An unknown error occurred. Please check your network settings." My network is working fine.
Apparently the "Reset" option is not available until after you've logged in with your gmail account. So that's something I've been unable to try. A catch 22 if you will.
I have completely uninstalled spanningsync and reinstalled it but the results are the same.
Any thoughts?

Only recently discovered Google Calendar which I have been subscribing to as read-only from iCal, but this way is far better. I have just installed 1.0b14 and it works fine so far.
Many Thanks

I've just installed.
I created some different events in both google calendar and ICal. "Spansynced"'em.
Everything all right. They replicated.
Changes in both Google Calendar and ICal worked perfectly, and were mirrored on the other side.
But... when I try to delete events in Google Calendar, they don't disapear from ICal.
If I delete them from ICal, they do disapear from Google Calendar.
Im at GMT +0300.
Thanks in advance,

Toobe,
We've heard this from several users but we can't recreate the problem. Please create a problem report ("Reset...", "Create report") and email it to beta@spanningsync.com along with a description of the problem.
Thanks,
Charlie

First of all, a great thanks for Spanning Sync! I've been wanting something like this for a long time.
I managed to get it to sync a bunch of calendars, but unfortunately it messes up some of the times, particularly for repeat events it seems. Times in iCal seem OK now, but some of the times in gCal are an hour behind (I live in GMT +1 -- so some of the times are showing in GMT in my gCal).
Another problem is that I'm syncing three different calendards (each with its own counterpart in iCal) but when I go back to gCal, I see invitation requests for some of the events on my "non-main" calendars. It seems pretty random, not sure why some do that and some don't.
Willing to help troubleshoot, I backed up my calendars before experimenting... I'd really like this to work!
