Last week Google made a change to the Calendar API that causes "phantom guests" to show up on events modified by the API. Affected events are displayed in the Google Calendar web UI with a "?" and a guest icon.
Google has acknowledged the bug and will hopefully have it fixed soon. In the mean time, you can remove the unwanted icons by editing any affected events' details and manually removing the phantom guest.
