Your friend saves $5. You make $5. No limits. Boom!
Plus, there are no limits on how much you can make. If you refer 100 people you make $500. Or if you refer 1,000 people you make $5,000. But even if you refer only one, you still make $5.
So what?
"Save 5+Make 5" does two things: first, it makes Spanning Sync more affordable, and second, it rewards our customers for something they're already doing: recommending Spanning Sync to their friends and colleagues.
How does "Save 5+Make 5" make Spanning Sync more affordable?
Let's say you've bought a one year Spanning Sync subscription for $25. If you refer just one friend during that year, you'll get $5 back—in effect saving you 20%. But if you refer five friends, you'll get $25 back—and your subscription becomes effectively free. Not only that, but your friends get $5 off their purchases, saving them money right away. And since they pay only $20 for their subscriptions, they could each effectively get Spanning Sync for free by referring only four of their other friends.

Why are you doing this?
Since we launched Spanning Sync in March 2007, we've never done any paid marketing: no ads, no conference sponsorships, no press releases, no laptop stickers, nada. Just a two-page website and a blog. But in spite of that, Spanning Sync has seen great success, due mostly to the fact that our customers recommend Spanning Sync to their friends and colleagues. So in addition to saying thank you, we've decided to actively invest our customer community with "Save 5+Make 5".
How does it work?
Getting started is really easy. Just open the Spanning Sync pref pane, click the new "Refer a friend" link (as shown above) to see your discount code, and then send your code to your friends. When they apply your code to their Spanning Sync purchase, they'll get $5 off and you'll get $5 back. (If you're not already a Spanning Sync customer, you'll need to purchase a Spanning Sync subscription in order to join the program.)
You can make it even easier for people to use your code by sharing the custom link you'll find on your Save 5+Make 5 page on your blog or web site, via Twitter, on your Facebook wall—anywhere people will be able to find it. When someone clicks on the link, your code will stick with them and will be applied automatically to their next Spanning Sync purchase.
Can I apply my code to my own purchases?
We like that idea a lot, but we've decided to go even further. Instead of saving $5 and waiting for us to send you $5, you'll save $10 off your renewal purchase automatically. You don't even need to type in your own code. In fact, you don't even need to participate in the "Save 5+Make 5" program—all Spanning Sync customers can now renew their Spanning Sync yearly subscriptions for only $15.
Can lifetime subscribers participate?
Absolutely. All paid Spanning Sync subscribers are eligible to participate in Save 5+Make 5 as long as their subscriptions are active. Also, your friends will save $5 on either type of subscription they purchase (one year or lifetime) when they apply your code.
Do I have to live in the US to participate in "Save 5+Make 5"?
No! We have customers in dozens of countries around the world, and we want to make sure that all of them can save their friends money and make money while they're doing it. So as long as you're 18 or older, can receive PayPal payments, and meet the other requirements listed in the Affiliate Agreement, you can participate—wherever you live.
I have another question that's not answered here.
Please post any questions or suggestions as a comment here or email us at support@spanningsync.com.
Thanks!
Charlie

The obvious question would be can people who have bought lifetime subscriptions participate. I don't believe that's very clear in this post.

Joey-
Yes, lifetime subscribers can absolutely participate. I've updated the post to make that more clear.
Thanks,
Charlie
