In response to a recent interaction problem with iCloud, Google has purposefully broken their CalDAV sync with iCal. From the Google Calendar Known Issues page:
Events deleted in iCal on Mac OS are not deleted in Google Calendar until further notice
…
In response to the above issue, we have stopped deleting events if the delete request comes from iCal. Until further notice, deleting any event in iCal on Mac OS will not remove this event from Google Calendar, but all other requests like creating events or changing existing events will be synced properly.
Spanning Sync, which uses a different sync technology than the CalDAV protocol used by iCal's built-in support for Google Calendar, is unaffected by this issue and remains the best way to sync iCal with Google Calendar. Boo-yah! :-)

Thanks for sharing this. I tried out syncing iCal with GCal using CalDAV a few months ago, but it was never all that reliable - I was getting occasional error messages for every calendar, which became annoying - and I went back to Spanning Sync, for good. Now I know that I made the right choice.
Keep up the great work!

How annoying! The whole point of "standards" like CalDAV is to prevent this sort of thing. I hate feeling like a civilian casualty in the war between Apple and Google.

Hi I just bought this program, which seemed like pretty good value.
All I want to do is synch my Address book on my macbook pro with my Google Contants. It goes through the motions but nothing appears in my address book :/
This whole thing is turning me off apple, which I never thought I would say. Life was so simple when I used outlook on windows with google synch.
Anyway, can you tell me I am supposed to see my google contacts in my address book. I dont even use calendar synching that seems to be OK natively. I just want my contacts.
