Spanning to Participate in Google I/O Developer Sandbox

I'm proud to announce that Google has invited us to participate in the Developer Sandbox at Google I/O in May.

We've been using the Google Data API's since they were first introduced in 2006, first with Spanning Sync and soon with Spanning Backup, about which we'll be talking more this week.

Spanning Tools v1.1 is now available, and is even better at finding and fixing problems in iCal, Address Book, and Sync Services.

Unusual Increase in (Mostly Harmless) Google Errors

Over the last couple of weeks we've seen a marked increase in the numbers of errors we're getting from Google, apparently due to some work they're doing on the internals of Google Apps.

Spanning Sync dutifully reports these errors (as shown here) but in almost all cases the errors are transient and the notifications are more annoying than helpful.

We're working on an update to Spanning Sync that will make notifications for conditions like this unobtrusive. In the mean time, feel free to dismiss these notifications. And as always, if you have any questions or run into any problems please contact us at support@spanningsync.com.

[SOLVED] Sporadic Google Calendar Outages Today

Update (Oct 9) It looks like the Calendar API outage from yesterday has been resolved.

We're seeing widespread problems with the Google Calendar API today. As a result, many users will see a "Google could not generate your list of feeds" error message from Spanning Sync. We'll continue to monitor the problem, and will update this post when it's been fixed.

What's New in 3.0.2

• Removing a recurrence rule's "until" date from Google Calendar now syncs to iCal
• Fixed a problem that could cause the sync to loop if the "sync events older than N days" option was on
• Changing an event so that it's not "all day" wasn't syncing in some cases
• Trickle syncs are faster
• Exchange calendars will sync as read-only
• CalDAV calendars weren't showing up as read-only, now they are
• The sync app was crashing in some cases
• Trickle syncs are now delayed by 10 seconds and coalesced
• Some errors sent from the server weren't being displayed
• Spanning Sync will now abort if Apple Sync Services doesn't respond within 10 minutes
